NEW YORK, NY — A McDowell County native will spend 30 years in prison, the maximum sentence possible, for attacking and raping a 73-year old woman who was bird watching in New York City’s Central Park last September.

“You, David Albert Mitchell, for the pain you inflicted on me and, by association, my loving family and friends, may you rot in hell for all eternity,” the victim told the Jenkinjones man during his sentencing hearing Wednesday.
NBC News reported the woman said Mitchell, 43, was “a sexual terrorist” and called on the judge “to do the right thing so that nobody else is ever hurt or menaced by this evil infestation.”
Mitchell plead guilty to charges of rape and robbery earlier this month for raping the woman twice. He is also accused of raping another woman two weeks later at a different New York City park.
In McDowell County, Mitchell was acquitted of raping and killing an 86-year old woman back when he was 18. He later faced several separate sexual assault charges involving older women and served prison time for other cases that included the abduction of his ex-girlfriend.
He was released from prison in 2011.
Following his arrests, New York officials have called for tougher penalties for sexual offenders.
