VIENNA, W.Va. — Parkersburg Police say a Wood County man had no idea his wife was planning to have him killed.
“It was pretty heartbreaking. He was in shock and total disbelief,” said Parkersburg Police Sgt. Greg Collins of the reaction of the man married to Amy Yvonne Mayhugh, 41, of Vienna, the woman who was arrested Wednesday night and charged with solicitation to commit murder.
“It’s hard to watch someone having to try to process that information,” said Collins who described the Mayhughs as “a normal couple.” “You would never think that anything like this was under the surface,” he said.

Mayhugh was accused of using a Rolex watch as a down payment for the hit on her husband.
She allegedly contacted a person who would have served as an agent to hire someone to kill her husband. Instead, that person, who was being identified only as “a cooperating individual,” went to Parkersburg Police.
Collins said investigators determined Mayhugh wanted to kill her husband to collect several insurance policies and other items totaling between $300,000 and $400,000.
“We’re completely convinced of that, which was supported by an admission from her,” said Collins, who was a guest on Thursday’s MetroNews “Talkline.”
Mayhugh was being held in the North Central Regional Jail.
