MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A couple of the top programs in the state will officially be meeting on the football field this upcoming season, setting up an intriguing Class AAA – Class AA matchup.
Morgantown and Wayne, both previously in need of a 10th game to complete their 2014 football schedules, have agreed to a contract that will have Morgantown making the 221 mile trip to take on the Pioneers. Morgantown head coach John Bowers first told MetroNews of the pending agreement on High School Sportsline last week.
“Right now, we have some AAA schools out there who have the same open date as us, but they’re just unwilling or it just won’t work out,” Bowers said. “We’re looking at playing Wayne down there – and I think we’re going to leave tomorrow.”
Morgantown last year, in a necessity to get to 10 games, had out of state matchups with Coolidge High out of D.C., McKinley High out of D.C and DuBois Area High School out of PA as well.
“You have to do what you have to do – our kids deserve 10 ballgames,” Bowers said.
Morgantown and Wayne will officially meet on October 3rd – the matchup currently is just a one year contract.
