One dead after foot pursuit

BLOOMINGROSE, W.Va. — Four Boone County Deputies were treated for hypothermia and one of the men they were pursuing died on Friday night when the foot chase ended up in the cold waters of the Big Coal River.

Deputies went to a home in the Bloomingrose community after learning James Alfred King III, 43, was wanted for outstanding warrants in Virginia and Kanawha County was possibly living there.  When they arrived a pickup truck with two men inside pulled into the driveway. One of the men fit the description of King.

Both men fled on foot and eventually jumped into the river.  Deputies got the first man out of the water, but King got away. He was found dead later Friday night and his body pulled from the river.

The name of the other suspect has not been released.
