BLUEWELL, W.Va. —Investigators believe speed was a factor in a deadly accident that took place Monday night in Mercer County.

Sheriff’s deputies said Kevin Brooks, 25, of Jenkinjones, was killed after crashing a car on Lorton Lick Road near Bluewell. The car went off the road, struck a utility pole and slammed into the front porch of a roadside house.
Brooks was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the car, Steven Neace, 22, of Montcalm, is in critical condition in a Charleston hospital. People were at home in the house that was damaged but were not injured.
Witnesses told deputies the Brooks was speeding.
