HUNTINGTON, W.Va.—Contests against South Carolina and Penn State as well as the annual tilt with intrastate rival West Virginia highlight the Thundering Herd’s non-conference basketball schedule this season. The athletic department released the 2014-15 non-conference schedule on Tuesday.
“Our schedule has a little bit of everything,” Marshall first-year coach Dan D’Antoni said. “Our fans deserve a great brand of basketball all the way around and we plan to give it to them. I know nothing but the greatest support from when I was a player here (1966-69) and I plan on that continuing while I am the coach.”
D’Antoni makes his collegiate coaching debut against Jacksonville State on Nov. 14. The Herd will be tested early on in the season. Marshall’s first road trip takes it to the KFC Yum! Center on Nov. 21 to meet new ACC member Louisville. The first week of December brings South Carolina to the Henderson Center on Dec. 1 and Penn State on Dec. 6. It’s the first time in program history Marshall will host two power conference schools at the Henderson Center in the same season.
“I could not be more excited to have Coach D’Antoni directing our basketball program as we embark on our most fan-friendly, non-conference home schedule since I have been at Marshall,” Marshall Director of Athletics Mike Hamrick said. “This schedule, coupled with a new-look C-USA, will provide our fans an opportunity to watch quality NCAA basketball.”
