MOUNT HOPE, W.Va. — Interim mayor Mike Kessinger could be appointed to the permanent post as soon as next week.

On Tuesday, Martin told members of the City Council he would not be returning and was resigning for health reasons. Martin underwent coronary bypass surgery last year.

Martin, a Mount Hope native, had served as the city’s mayor for 16 years. His current term was scheduled to end in June 2016.

Kessinger served as Mount Hope’s recorder from 2012-2014.

The next meeting for Mount Hope’s City Council is scheduled for April 21.
