HATTIESBURG, MS– Southern Miss used a big sixth inning Sunday to down Marshall 6-2 and sweep the weekend. The Golden Eagles plated five runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
Southern Miss lead 1-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, scoring on a sacrifice fly in fourth.
Marshall tried to rally in eighth, but it was too little too late. Corey Bird led off with a walk and moved up to second on a D.J. Gee single. T.J. drove in Bird and Gee would come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Dundon. But that was all the offense Marshall could muster.
The Herd’s offense struggled all weekend. Marshall was outscored 16-2 during the three-game series.
Marshall returns home this weekend to play host to Western Kentucky for a three-game series at Appalachian Power Park.
