Cheat Lake boating accident injures 12

CHEAT LAKE, W.Va. — As many as 12 people were injured, a couple of them critically, in a Memorial Day boating accident on Cheat Lake in Monongalia County.

Emergency officials said the accident was reported before 9 p.m. Monday near Warm Hollow which is not far from Cheat Lake’s Sunset Beach Marina.

All 12 people were on a a 23-foot Malibu speed boat that apparently hit the shore, according to DNR officials.

Three people were transported by air while the others were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

Officers with the state Division of Natural Resources were investigating along with deputies with the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department.
