Martinsburg basketball eyes trip to Hawaii for December tournament

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Martinsburg boys basketball team has its sites set on Hawaii after being invited to participate in this year’s Iolani Prep Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The tournament happens in December, and between now and then, the players and boosters need to raise money for the trip.

Head coach Dave Rogers said they have their work cut out for them.

“It’s going to be a major task just to be able to raise funds,” he said.

All told each player will need to raise about $1,500 dollars. The Nike sponsored tournament features some elite teams from around the country.

“We want to get good experiences for our players,” Rogers says. “I think its going to be a great experience for our young people.”

Rogers says visits to sites like the USS Arizona Memorial, located at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu and Diamond Head National Park will be part of their nearly week long trip.

Several events are scheduled to help with the effort, including basketball camps and raffles. For more information, click here.
