2 men dead in Greenbrier County crash

DAWSON, W.Va.Two men were killed in a car crash early Monday morning in Greenbrier County, sheriff’s deputies said.

The 1 a.m. wreck on Springdale Road claimed the lives of driver Derek Fitzwater, 19, of South Charleston, and passenger Danny Fitzwater, 43, of Alderson.

“(The vehicle) apparently traveled off the eastern shoulder and impacted a tree,” Greenbrier County Chief Deputy Bruce Sloan told MetroNews. “It came to rest on its passenger side against a tree.”

Two other passengers were hospitalized. Dustin Bryant, 23 of Lewisburg, was flown to CAMC in Charleston and Chad Fox, 21, of Ronceverte, was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, Sloan said.

“There’s no indication that the road conditions or the atmospheric conditions played a part in that,” he said.

None the victims was wearing seat belts, investigators said.
