Clarksburg PD: Victim of shooting allegedly broke into home beforehand

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The man shot early Friday morning was done so while trying to break into a home, according to the Clarksburg Police Department.

The male homeowner along Magnolia Avenue told officers he shot David Davis in the chest.

Davis and Todd Benson, both of Clarksburg, are alleged to have broken in through the back door of the home at around 5:14 a.m., according to Clarksburg Chief of Police Robbie Hilliard.

The man and woman living in the home woke up and were assaulted by the suspects. The man then reportedly shot Davis in self-defense.

Davis would be flown from the scene to Ruby Memorial Hospital –where his condition is unknown– and arrest warrants were obtained for him and Benson.

Clarksburg PD continues to investigation the incident. Anyone with further information is asked to call 304-624-1618 ext. 1125.
