McDowell County man charged with murder; wife’s body found in basement

WELCH, W.Va. — A man was arrested in McDowell County for allegedly killing his wife and burying her body in his basement.

Woody Alfred Wood Jr., 35, was charged with first degree murder Sunday after deputies with the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office found the body of Rebecca Wood.

Family members filed a missing person report Friday after Rebecca Wood had not been seen for a couple of days in the English/Bartley area. They said her husband was a person of interest.

He was placed in the McDowell County Holding unit to be arraigned.
