Teenager dies after Jackson County wreck

FAIRPLAIN, W.Va. — A 19-year-old man operating a motorcycle in Jackson County died following a Thursday night accident, police said.

John Schmidt was driving the motorcycle that was hit by a car at the intersection of state Route 21 and Shamblin Run Road near Fairplain, according to Jackson County sheriff’s deputies.

Schmidt died at a nearby hospital.

The driver of the car was 16, police said. The investigation into the crash continues.
