WINFIELD, W.Va. — A man was killed in a Thursday morning crash on Interstate 64 in Putnam County, police said.

The wreck happened at around 3:30 a.m. on Route 817 just before the highway travels under the I-64 Nitro/St. Albans bridge.

The passenger in the vehicle, Keith Michael Patrick, 31, of Winfield, was killed, Putnam County sheriff’s deputies said.

The driver, who had gotten himself out of the car, was taken to Charleston Area Medical Center.

Alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash, deputies said.
