MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Junior college three-star cornerback Alex Woods tweeted Thursday he has decommitted from West Virginia.
The Lackawanna (Pa.) College sophomore pledged in June but has appeared in only one game this season due to injuries. Both sides essentially “moved on” after Woods took a recent visit to Maryland, one recruiting source said.
The Mountaineers’ 2017 class — ranked 41st overall by Rivals and fourth in the Big 12 — features 17 commitments, including six defensive backs.
West Virginia continues pursuing two additional three-star cornerbacks: Kentucky commitment Michael Nesbitt from Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., and Octavious Morgan of Butler (Kan.) Community College.
In addition, the Mountaineers remain interested in Woods’ teammate at Lackawanna, 6-foot-7 offensive tackle Isaiah Hardy.
