Accused Wheeling carjacker arrested in nearby Pa.

WHEELING, W.Va. — A man wanted in a violent carjacking in Wheeling from Friday afternoon is now in the custody of Pennsylvania authorities.

Pennsylvania State Police arrested Clifton Dent, 37, of Wheeling Friday evening along I-70 near Washington, PA. He was discovered after a car, he reportedly stole in Wheeling, was spotted abandoned by troopers along the highway.

Dent is charged with robbery and grand larceny after the incident around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Wheeling Police say an elderly woman was dragged out of her car and the attacker drove away. The incident happened on 5th Street in Wheeling near the Providence Green Apartments.

The elderly victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, mostly to her face.

Dent is lodged in a Pennsylvania jail awaiting extradition back to West Virginia to face the charges.
