Weather related crash claims a life in Putnam County

HURRICANE, W.Va. — A head on collision Monday morning left a woman dead and her ten-year old child hospitalized.

The driver, a 38 year old woman, hit a patch of black ice in a curve according to Putnam County Sheriff Steve Deweese. The car slid into the path of an ongoing coming vehicle on Route 34 south of Hurricane.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Her ten year old child is in critical condition. The driver of the second vehicle was treated and released from CAMC Teays Valley.

The crash happened about 7:30 a.m. An investigation into the accident continues.
