Yeager hosts beach-themed kick off event for seasonal flights to Myrtle Beach, Fort Lauderdale

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County woman is one of several people lucky enough to win a round-trip ticket to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

“I was excited,” said Gloria Huffman, of Nitro. “We usually all go together. It’s great because now I only have to pay for my husband.”

Huffman won the ticket Monday through Spirit Airlines during a kick off event for seasonal flights out of Yeager Airport.

The airport held a beach-themed event at the Spirit ticket counter for anyone interested in booking flights to Myrtle Beach or Fort Lauderdale, Florida. People were given the opportunity to draw seashells out of a pool of sand. Winning seashells included a sticker on the back for a free flight.

Flights to either destination can be booked from April 14 through November 3.

Yeager Airport Director Terry Sayre said the seasonal flights run two months longer compared to previous years.

“It’s been a very successful operation here for us,” Sayre said. “I think people in our area want these flights which will give everybody who plays golf the opportunity to go to the beach in the fall as well as go to Fort Lauderdale.”

Booking a flight at the Spirit counter is cheaper than booking a flight online, Sayre said.

“If you’re going to buy Spirit tickets, you need to come to the airport,” he said.

Flights will run on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
