Lincoln wins four of last five after edging Independence

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Lincoln entered this week having won three straight games and four of its last five after beating Independence 11-10 from Bridgeport in the McDonald’s Baseball Classic.

The Cougars (6-4) won all three of their games in the Classic, edging Berkeley Springs 7-6, beating Tygarts Valley 14-1 and holding on to beat Independence 11-10 (gallery above).

In the victory over Independence, Hunter Moore went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, David Akers collected three RBIs, while Kobie Carpenter and Hunter Williams both posted two RBIs apiece in the win as well.

Lincoln led 11-7 heading into the bottom of the seventh before Independence rallied, coming up a run short of forcing extra innings.

Shortstop Fisher Horton went 4 for 5 with an RBI and three runs scored in the loss for Independence (6-6).
