Haz-Mat incident in eastern Kanawha County

UPDATE 2 p.m.  Shelter in place lifted

BELLE, W.Va. — Several hundred residents and a dozen schools were asked to shelter-in-place Friday afternoon in Kanawha County as emergency crews dealt with a hazardous materials incident.

A tractor tractor wrecked in the 1800 block of West Dupont Avenue Friday morning. The shelter-in-place was issued for parts of Dupont City and Belle as crews prepared to upright the vehicle. Traffic was also stopped on nearby U.S. Route 60.

Kanawha County also placed schools near the crash and those across the Kanawha River under a shelter-in-place including Malden Elementary, Marmet Elementary, Midland Trail Elementary, Belle Elementary, Chamberlain Elementary, Chesapeake Elementary, Kanawha City Elementary, Horace Mann Middle, Dupont Middle, Carver Career and Technical Center and Riverside High School.

No injuries were initially reported in connection with the crash.
