Gallery: Canary highlights Class A Region 2 track meet

WESTON, W.Va. — South Harrison senior speedster Freddy Canary was one of the highlights as regional track meets took place across the state.

Canary won all four of his individual events in Class A Region 2 — the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter dash and the long jump — in qualifying for this week’s state track meet.

Doddridge County standout Jonna Ferrell also won all four of her individual regional events.

Canary is the defending state champion in all four of his events.

Overall, he qualified this year with the fastest time for the state meet in the 100 (10.82) and 200 (22.02), and was the second qualifier just behind Magnolia’s Brooks Parsons in the 400 (50.90, compared with Parsons’ 50.88).

Braden Price of Wheeling Central posted the largest long-jump of 20-11, with Canary just behind at 20-06.

An overall gallery with some of the sights from the Class A Region 2 track meet is posted above.

The state track meet is set for Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19 in Charleston.
