Pair arrested in attack on elderly Logan County woman

LOGAN, W.Va. — Logan County deputies have arrested a pair on charges of attacking and robbing an elderly woman.

Larry Swims, 29, of Mount Gay and Brandi Nicole Smith, 36, of Mount Gay were arrested in connection with the April 23rd attack of Alma Workman, 77, at her Mount Gay home. Smith is charged with assault and Swims is charged with malicious wounding.

Smith, Swims, and another unidentified individual entered Workman’s home looking for money and a bus ticket according to Logan County deputies. Workman resisted and told the group to leave, but instead Swims shoved the elderly victim to the floor while Smith got into a fight with her in the home.

The victim suffered multiple bruises and abrasions as a possibly broken hip.

Deputies say the investigation continues and more charges could be forthcoming.
