CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Public Employees Insurance Agency Finance Board meets Thursday in Charleston and is scheduled to take up Gov. Jim Justice’s call for an adjustment that will increase the impact of an upcoming pay raise for state workers.
Justice held a news conference earlier this week asking the finance board to adjust the 10 tiers that determine a state worker’s monthly premium to be adjusted upward by $2,700. The adjustment will keep 14,000 workers from being bumped up in a higher tier that would have eaten away some of their pay raise.
The tier movement will put a smaller number of workers into a lower tier so they will actually be paying less in premiums.
A five percent pay raise was approved for teachers and most other workers earlier this year. The PEIA board okayed a yearlong freeze in rates before the nine-day education workers strike began.
Thursday’s meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m.
