PRINCETON, W.Va. — A Mercer County man charged in connection with the death of a two-year-old boy waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

John Powers, 46, of Green Valley, faces charges of second-degree murder and child abuse resulting in death for the child’s passing.

The boy’s mother, Candice Jones, is Powers’ girlfriend. Jones is scheduled to appear in magistrate court on Thursday and faces a charge of child abuse resulting in death.

The boy died at a Charleston hospital Friday. State police said the boy had multiple injuries including burns and broken bones.
