U.S. Marshal: Special deputy marshal did what he’s trained to do

ELKVIEW, W.Va. — The U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of West Virginia is giving a lot of credit to a member of the agency’s special task force for a heads-up arrest.

U.S. Marshal Michael Baylous, left.

U.S. Marshal Michael Baylous said it happened Wednesday night at the Crossings Mall near Elkview when off-duty Roane County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike King, who also serves as a special deputy marshal, made an identification.

“He stopped in the Kroger there. He had been part of a task force that was looking for Casey Larch who was wanted out of Kanawha County. He just happened to see him there and was able to effect the arrest,” Baylous said Thursday.

Larch is being held on burglary and malicious wounding charges.

Baylous said King did what he’s trained to do.

“That’s to always be aware of your environment and circumstances and know what’s going on,” Baylous said.

The arrest took place mostly without incident.

“There was a little bit of a struggle there but there were some folks there who were glad to step in and help out and ensure that there was more than enough help to make sure he was going to jail,” Baylous said.
