Governor’s son, Jay, is released from the hospital after health scare

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — During introductory remarks during a rally with President Donald Trump, Gov. Jim Justice told a crowd that his son, Jay, had a serious health situation that required medical treatment.

“My son, believe it or not, just ended up with an incredibly close call, a blood clot, at age 37, a guy who runs six miles a day. It would have gone to his lung,” the governor told the crowd.

“I would really appreciate your prayers. I just left Johns Hopkins just a second ago and flew.”

Today, the Governor’s Office issued an update that Jay Justice is doing better and has been released from the hospital.

“Our son Jay is being released from the hospital today and his condition is improving very quickly,” the governor stated. “The entire Justice family is extremely grateful for your thoughts and prayers during this time.”

When Jim Justice took office as governor, he announced that he would be placing Jay in charge of the family’s coal and agricultural businesses.

A few weeks ago, when the governor and officials with the state Department of Revenue announced Justice’s family businesses had cleared longstanding tax debts in West Virginia, Jim Justice credited Jay with his handling of the finances.

The state officials also said Jay would be the only one who could provide the details of what had been resolved between the family businesses and the Tax Department.
