Pence: McCain will be appropriately honored by Trump administration

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Vice President Mike Pence said during an appearance Tuesday on MetroNews “Talkline” there will be a fitting tribute for the life and service of U.S. Senator John McCain.

McCain, 82, died last weekend after a battle with cancer. President Donald Trump has been criticized for a delay in recognizing the death. Trump finally tweeted a message Monday afternoon.

When asked about the delayed response by MetroNews “Talkline” Host Hoppy Kercheval Pence focused on the upcoming ceremonies.

“I can assure all your listeners that this administration is going to ensure in events that take place throughout the country and here in Washington, D.C., ending this Sunday at the Naval Academy, that we pay fitting tribute to Senator McCain, Pence said.

Pence said he will speak at an event scheduled for Friday.

“We’re praying for his family. We honor his service and it will always be my great honor to have known and to have served in the Congress at a time that Senator John McCain served,” Pence said.
