Morgan County man arrested for voting illegally in two states

MORGAN COUNTY, W.Va. — A man has been charged for allegedly voting illegally in two states.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department worked alongside West Virginia Secretary of State Investigator Gary Harmison to apprehend Jeffrey Hartman, 72, for illegal voting.

The investigation revealed Hartman owns property in both West Virginia and Maryland. He allegedly voted in multiple elections for several years in both states.

“It does happen,” Secretary of State Mac Warner told MetroNews affiliate WEPM. “It is something that we all need to be tuned into. If somebody hears something I want them to say something.”

A warrant was issued on September 14 for Hartman. He was later released on personal recognizance bond.
