Christian mentoring group expanding services in southern WV

BECKLEY, W.V.A — Faith-based mentoring organization Young Life is planning to bring its services to Raleigh County.

The national organization has several chapters in West Virginia, including Nicholas County, where Scott Berg is the regional director. He told MetroNews affiliate WJLS he thinks Beckley would be an ideal location to expand Young Life’s mentoring services.

“There’s lot kids in this county…some big schools, its a fairly high populated county by West Virginia standards, so there’s a lot of kids out there and we want to be part of the solution,” said Berg.

He added said there are plans in the works to make southern West Virginia a central hub for the organization’s annual events in the eastern US.

“We’ve fairly recently acquired almost 12 hundred acres up near the Gauley River, and we’re in the process of fundraising and developing that into the next Young Life camp, which we’re thrilled about. That’s really going to set us up to serve kids in West Virginia and in this part of the United States.”

There’ll be a start-up board meeting of Young Life at Pasquale’s on Harper Road in Beckley on Tuesday, September 25th, beginning at noon. The public is invited to attend.
