Fight leads to fatal collision on Turnpike

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A woman was struck and killed by a tractor trailer on the West Virginia Turnpike early Saturday morning after an apparent fight with her husband.

According to state police, Bryan and D’nessa Mercado of Richmond, Va., were traveling north in Raleigh County between Ghent and Beckley at about 3:30 a.m. when they got into an argument and D’nessa began hitting her husband. He pulled to the side of the highway and she got out of the vehicle—walked into the northbound lane and was struck and killed by the truck.

Troopers said Bryan Mercado was on the phone with emergency dispatchers at the time of the incident. Troopers have a copy of the recording.

No charges have been filed. An investigation is continuing.
