Flood watch extended for eastern panhandle

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service has extended a flood watch for West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle through late Saturday night.

The watch covers Berkeley, Hampshire, Hardy, Jefferson,Grant, Pendleton, Mineral and Morgan counties.

According to NWS meteorologists, “moderate rainfall is expected with locally heavy rain
possible. Rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2.5 inches are most likely with locally higher amounts of 3 to 4 inches possible. Runoff from the rainfall may cause creeks and streams to rise out of their banks as well as the potential for flooding in urban areas.”

Most of the rest of the state was covered with rain Saturday morning with a possible break in the precipitation for a few hours Saturday afternoon. Rainfall appeared heavier in the state’s northern counties.

Meteorologists expect Sunday to include a few leftover showers but a drier day overall. Full clearing problem won’t happen until Monday.
