Goodwin names three to leadership team

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Thre new appointments have been announced by Charleston mayor-elect Amy Goodwin.

The announcement from Goodwin of the appointments to the city’s leadership team coming on Thursday afternoon, as she gets set to take office in the new year.

Goodwin appointed Ariela Alpert as the Director of Strategic Management. In a release from Goodwin, Alpert will assist the mayor-elect in improving the efficiencies and effectiveness of city government and the services the city provides. Alpert has a master’s degree from Harvard University in the John F. Kennedy School of Government in public policy.

Jonathan Storage has been appointed to Charleston City Manager. Storage has two degrees from West Virginia University, one in political science and one in law. He has experience in government administration, finance, procurement, utilities, and construction and has most recently served as the General Counsel for the West Virginia Division of Highways.

Kevin Baker, an American University’s Washington College of Law graduate, will be the next City Attorney. The release stated that Baker has served as counsel to the West Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee and has worked as Counsel to the Senate Minority Leader and in those roles, he analyzed and drafted legislation as well as provided legal and policy advice to members of the West Virginia Senate.

“I’m extremely excited to bring the talents of these three amazing professionals to the City of Charleston,” Goodwin said in the release. “Alpert, Storage and Baker share the same passion and forward-thinking vision as I do for our city.”

Goodwin is scheduled to take office on Jan. 7 as she will become the first female mayor in Charleston’s history. She takes over for Danny Jones, who has been the Mayor of Charleston for the past 16 years.
