CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The toll rate increase delayed from going into effect at the start of the year will take effect on Tuesday.
The West Virginia Parkways Authority moved Dec. 31 to delay the increase following problems with applications for the discounted EZ Pass for the West Virginia Turnpike; the authority has since caught up with the backlog of applications for the three-year $24 pass to use on the Turnpike.
The final day to apply for such an EZ Pass was Friday.
The toll rate for regular vehicles doubled from $2 to $4 at each of the Turnpike’s three toll plaza. A passenger vehicle pulling a trailer will pay $5 at each booth instead of $2.50.
For commercial vehicles, the rates range from $6.50 to $24.00 per toll plaza depending on the size of the truck.
The increased tolls will go toward highway construction projects in 10 southern counties. The first group of bonds, worth $166 million, were sold in mid-August.
