WVU, Fairmont State, and Pierpont all close for full day Thursday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University, Fairmont State University, and Pierpont Community & Technical College will remain closed Thursday.

WVU and Fairmont State were both originally set to re-open after closing Wednesday at 1 p.m. due to subzero wind chill, with valuations close to 20 degrees below zero throughout the day Wednesday.

The temperatures are slightly less extreme Thursday in the region, but the National Weather Service estimates wind chill valuations will be near eight degrees below zero.

The Mountainlair, the Student Rec Center and Libraries will remain closed. WVU Students will still have access to their residence hall dining facilities. WVU’s Carruth Center will also be closed, but available for emergency calls.

Dining services are also available at Fairmont State and Pierpont. Normal operations for all three schools is expected to resume Friday, Feb. 1
