UPDATE: Man admits to fatally shooting Martinsburg man during home invasion

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A man has confessed to fatally shooting a man in his home.

Alvin Gilbert, 27.

Martinsburg Police announced Thursday that Alvin Gilbert, 27, was arrested on drug warrants when he eventually confessed to the murder of Corey Barkhamer, 26.

Investigators still believe it was an attempted home invasion.

Gilbert is being held at the Eastern Regional Jail on a felony charge of first degree murder.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Police continue to investigate a fatal shooting that appears to have started as a home invasion.

Martinsburg Police were called to a home at 405 South Raleigh Street just after 3 Sunday afternoon. There, they found Corey Barkhamer, 26, with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was transported to Berkeley Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Barkharmer reportedly lived at the home. A press release indicates the shooting may have happened during a home invasion.

Martinsburg Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 304-264-2100.
