Parkersburg South, Pt. Pleasant & Greenbrier West close in on state wrestling titles

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Parkersburg South, Point Pleasant and Greenbrier West lead their respective classes after the second day of competition at the WVSSAC state wrestling championships.

In Class AAA, the Patriots lead the way with 212.5 points. Wheeling Park (150) stands second. Parkersburg (116.5), Huntington (105.5) and John Marshall (84) complete the top five.

Point Pleasant has taken a commanding lead in Class AA. The Big Blacks pace the field with 164 points. Five-time defending state champion Independence (104) is second. East Fairmont (102.5) is third. Braxton County (90) and Fairmont Senior (57) are fourth and fifth respectively.

In Class A, Greenbrier West is in front with 74 points. Wirt County (59) is second. Madonna (42.5), Wahama (31) and South Harrison (24.5) round out the top five.

Championship bouts are set for Saturday evening.
