Berkeley County woman indicted for shooting her kids

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Berkeley County woman will now be scheduled for trial on charges of shooting her two young daughters.

The Berkeley County Grand Jury this week handed up indictments against Julie Orellana, 46, of Gerrardstown. She was arrested last September for shooting her daughters, ages eight and 11, at their Berkeley County home.

The eight year old was killed. The 11 year old, wounded, ran to a neighbor’s home to get help.

She was indicted for murder, attempted murder, malicious assault and use of a firearm during a felony. According to court documents, Orellana was found 16 hours after the shooting with a steak knife, a pistol, and a six-page letter outlining her reasons for shooting the children.
