Body of missing Mineral County woman found in Potomac River

SPRING GAP, Md. — An investigation is underway after the body of a missing Mineral County woman was found in the Potomac River.

According to Lt Catherine Medellin with Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police, emergency crews were called out to the area of Spring Gap after a state employee found a vehicle in the river at about 3 p.m. Thursday.

Dive teams and emergency crews from around the region were called to the area and remained at the scene until 11 p.m.

Emergency crews located the body of Cathy Richardson, 62, of Fort Ashby, who was reported missing Feb. 25.

Richardson’s body has been sent to the Maryland State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

No foul play is suspected, according to authorities.
