Fire Marshal: Raleigh County church fire was arson

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A fire that destroyed the Freedom Ministries Church in Daniels earlier this month was set deliberately, according to investigators with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office.

No injuries resulted from the fire, which occurred on March 3. The following week, members of the church gathered on the church grounds to worship, and Head Pastor Phillip Farrington told the congregation a new building would be constructed at the site.

For now, services are being held at the church’s youth center, until enough money can be raised to cover the costs of construction. Farrington said support has been coming in from across the country.

The WVSFMO is asking anyone with information about the case to contact the West Virginia Arson Hotline at 1-800-233-FIRE (3473). A reward of up to $5000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the crime.

The investigation is ongoing.
