One dead and one charged in fatal Logan County crash

LOGAN, W.Va. — A Logan County woman faces charges of DUI causing death after an accident earlier in the week.

Melanie Boothe, 33, of Cyclone, W.Va,. died early Wednesday morning from injuries suffered in the crash Tuesday afternoon. She was a passenger in a vehicle drive by Amber Jude, 35, of Mallory, W.Va. Jude told deputies she passed out at the wheel as she and Boothe were headed to Wyoming County. Their pickup truck veered off the highway and struck a utility pole on Huff Creek Road. Boothe was ejected from the truck.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered two plastic bags in the truck. One of the bags contained what investigators believe was marijuana the other contained what was believed to be methamphetamine. The materials are being tested at the State Police Crime Lab.

Jude was arrested originally on charges of possession of a controlled substance, DUI causing bodily injury, driving on Suspended/Revoked license for DUI and Failure to Maintain Control. However, upon the death of the passenger, charges were updated to DUI causing death.

Jude is lodged in the Southwestern Regional Jail.
