DMV’s Reed retiring next week

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Division of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Pat Reed announced her retirement Thursday. It takes effect this coming Monday, April 1.

Pat Reed

Former Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin appointed the former Raleigh County commissioner to the post in 2015. Gov. Jim Justice kept her in the position.

New state Transportation Secretary Byrd White, himself a former Raleigh County commissioner, will choose Reed’s replacement.

Several members of the House of Delegates Government Organization Committee expressed frustration with Reed over two issues during a committee meeting back in February.

One issue was the agency’s failure to provide required reports assessing the rollout of a motor voter law that passed three years ago.

A separate one was a difference of opinion over the placement of kiosks meant to be a public convenience and to alleviate crowds at DMV offices.

Reed was subpoenaed to appear before the committee.
