WV couple killed in NC wreck

YADKIN COUNTY, N.C. — A husband and wife from Putnam County were killed earlier this week in a fiery crash on Interstate 77 in North Carolina, authorities said.

Rick Stover, 62, and Ramona Stover, 63, both of Eleanor, were in a pick-up truck traveling on the interstate through Yadkin County, N.C., Thursday afternoon when they slowed for a construction zone. Authorities said a tractor trailer behind them did not slow down and hit the pick-up sending it into another tractor trailer. The collision caused a fire.

Passing motorists stopped and tried to put out the fire. The Stovers were pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said charges could be filed. Their investigation is ongoing.
