Man arrested after chain-reaction crash involving school bus

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A driver with charged with DUI after allegedly causing a multi-vehicle crash in Charleston Thursday afternoon that involved a school bus.

The collision occurred at around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Corridor (U.S. Route 119) and MacCorkle Avenue.

Police allege a truck driven by Franklin Carroll Jr., 27, of Virginia, slammed into the rear of a car ahead of him that caused a chain reaction collision. The car Carroll’s truck hit then hit another car that went into the rear of the school bus that was stopped at the busy intersection.

Carroll, who police say was under the influence, ran from the scene. He was found a few minutes later in the restroom of an Enterprise Car Rental location not far from the crash scene.

The driver of the car that received the initial impact was taken to a Charleston hospital. A woman in Carroll’s truck suffered minor injuries. There was one child on the school bus but there were no injuries.
