Sentencing for former Kanawha magistrate scheduled for Friday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Former Kanawha County Magistrate Julie Yeager is scheduled to be sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in March to two felonies.

Yeager admitted to embezzlement and fraudulent schemes for taking more than $30,000 from the West Virginia Magistrate Association for personal use. She served as the organization’s treasurer between 2010 and July 2017, when she resigned from public office.

She faces up to 10 years in prison for each count.

As part of the plea deal, Yeager lost eligibility to her retirement benefits and cannot seek or hold public office.
