Winfield man killed in UTV crash

WINFIELD, W.Va. — A Winfield man is dead after crashing his UTV on a rural road in Putnam County.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as James Arthur Lewis, 72, of Winfield was found dead early Monday morning. Relatives say he had driven his side-by-side vehicle to visit a friend on and had been riding much of the evening with friends.

According to friends, Lewis left his friend’s home about 9:30 p.m. but never made it home. Lewis’ body was discovered about 7 a.m. on Monday.

His machine had crashed over the embankment off Morrison Fork Road near the intersection of Rocky Step Road. Deputies say Lewis had been ejected from the machine. He was discovered by a passing motorist heading out to work.
