Man committed to psychiatric facility after Bethany College incident

BETHANY, W.Va. — A man who damaged a Bethany College dorm room last year will spend at least four years at a psychiatric facility.

Brandon Jackson was sentenced Monday. He was accused of throwing items out of a dormitory window and fighting with Brooke County Deputy Kristen Richmond in July.

Richmond later described Jackson as hallucinating. She also said the incident left her with a broken nose.

According to assistant prosecuting attorney David Cross, Jackson has a family history of schizophrenia.

Jackson was facing two counts of felony assault on an officer and several misdemeanor charges, which he was found not guilty by reason of mental illness. He was committed to William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital for between four and 20 years.
