Mercer County deputy shoots man after he charged with knife

PRINCETON, W.Va. — A Mercer County deputy shot a man who allegedly charged at officers with a “razor knife.”

EMS personnel on Monday responded to Barker Street residence for an overdose call and found James Lilly cutting himself with the knife.

When two Mercer County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, they tried to talk Lilly into dropping the knife, which was unsuccessful.

One deputy issued pepper spray, to which Lilly responded by running at the deputies with the knife. A deputy shot at Lilly twice.

Lilly was transported to Princeton Community Hospital.
