Webster County pair arrested following death of child, injury to twin sister

DIANA, W.Va. — A Webster County man and woman are in jail following the death of a two-month-old boy and injuries to his twin sister.

Preston Fisher

The West Virginia State Police arrested Preston Fisher, 23, and Erica Hamrick, 28, both of Diana last Friday. They are being held in the Central Regional Jail on $50,000 bail each.

Troopers said the boy died May 10 after a short hospital stay. He had suffered broken ribs and other injuries. Fisher told investigators the boy had rolled off a piece of furniture along with his twin sister Hamrick had a similar explanation.

Erica Hamrick

According to a criminal complaint, doctors treating the children said the children were too young to roll over and the injuries were caused by non-accidental trauma.

Fisher and Hamrick are charged with malicious wounding, child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, assault during the commission of a felony, and two counts of gross child neglect creating a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury. There could be additional charges.
