Missing man found dead in Mingo County

MATEWAN, W.Va. — The body of a man reported missing earlier this week was found Saturday morning, according to state police troopers.

Jimmy Murphy, 71, of Matewan, was last seen Wednesday when he went for an ATV ride. He never returned home.

A Silver Alert was issued. Murphy’s ATV was found Thursday but he was not near it.

According to troopers, the body was located Saturday morning in the Sprigg area.

The body has been sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office to determine an official cause of death.
